应郑煜铭研究组和中国科学院城市污染物转化重点实验室邀请，德克萨斯大学埃尔帕索分校（UTEP）、ES&T副主编Jorge Gardea-Torresdey教授于1月22日至23日到城市环境研究所学术交流，并先后作了“From Searching for Friendly Mining Technologies to Studies on the Chemical Fate of Nanoparticles in Terrestrial Plants: How Gold Mining Changed My Life”和“What You Should Know Before Submitting a Manuscript to a Scientific and Engineering Journal - An ES&T Editor’s Advice”两场精彩的报告。

    Jorge Gardea-Torresdey介绍了纳米材料的环境影响、迁移和转化规律，以及最后如何通过食物链影响到人们的生活，并就纳米材料的环境风险与研究所师生进行了深入地探讨；他详细介绍了英文论文的格式、语法和注意事项，并分析了投稿过程中出现的问题及应对措施；最后分享了他的人生经验，并和大家就论文写作方面进行了广泛地交流。报告精彩纷呈，现场气氛热烈，令大家受益匪浅。

    专家简介：

        Dr. Jorge Gardea-Torresdey is the Dudley Professor of Environmental Science & Engineering, and Professor of Chemistry at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). He is currently the Chair of the Department Chemistry at UTEP. His research interests include: applications of spectroscopy techniques in environmental chemistry; phytoremediation, novel methods for the bioproduction of nanoparticles, development of analytical methods to detect nanomaterials, study of the fate of nanoparticles in the environment, and applications of nanotechnology to clean water among others. Dr. Gardea-Torresdey has authored over 420 publications and issued 5 US patents for environmental remediation. Dr. Gardea has received many honors. 2017, he was recognized by the Government of Mexico for his outstanding career as a researcher and his valuable scientific contributions to nanotechnology. 2017, he also received Great Minds in STEM Award. 2016, he received the first ever Graduate Mentor Award in UTEP history, etc. He was Editor of the Journal of Hazardous Materials from 2007 to 2010, and on January 1st, 2011, he was appointed Associate Editor of ES&T, which is ranked # 1 in the world in the fields of Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering.
